Motivation is a spirit that encourages someone to achieve certain goals or achievements, so motivation is very important for students in participating in learning process. The aim of this research to determine the factors affecting students low learning motivation in English subject of the eighth grade at SMPN 12 Kotabumi. In this research, researcher used descriptive qualitative research methods. The instrument used in this research was interviews. The data from this research were taken from interviews with 10 students eighth grade at SMP 12 Kotabumi. The respondents for this research were eighth grade students, a total of 34 students. To find out the level of student motivation, the researcher used a questionnaire. After getting the 10 lowest respondents, the researcher used interviews to dig deeper into what factors affecting students low learning motivation in English subject. Based on the results of this analysis it can be concluded that basically all factors affect the low motivation of student learning, namely physical factors (health), intelligence, facilities and infrastructure, teachers, friends and finally family/parent factors.
