AN ANALYSIS OF DEIXIS OF THE NOVEL "FRANKENSTEIN" BY MARY SHELLEY
Abstract:
Abstract: Deixis is a study that describes the relationship between language and context in the structure of the language itself. Deixis is a part of pragmatics which discusses the expressions or context in a sentence. Based on the analysis result that there are some deixis found in the novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley.the objective of the study is to describe the deixis of novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley. There are some types of deixis such as (1) Person deixis is the use of words or sentences that refer to someone from a certain person’s point of view or conversation in a story or novel that is read. An example of person in a “Frankenstein” novel is me, I, you, they, we, she and so on. (2) Time deixis is explains the time an event occurs in someone’s conversation or a description from someone’s point of view in a story and written work of art such as a novel. An example of the existence of time in this novel is afternoon, evening, night, yesterday, morning, next day and so on. And (3) Place deixis is a sentence that includes a location from the point of view of a person or character in a novel or story, a example of a place in existence in this novel is England, Lake of Como, Geneva, Laboratory, University, Mountain, Archangel and so on.
